Meditation | tips for getting started

Meditation TipsAll of the power needed to stay grounded + connected, no matter what life presents and no matter what energy enters your space, is already inside of you! You need only to listen, feel and observe.

If you have not already, start by creating a sacred space. A place where you will not be disturbed. Make it comforting and inviting to you. Add things to this space that are meaningful to you; perhaps affirmation or mantra cards, a candle, crystals...Things that comfort you; photographs, books...Things that connect you to nature; flowers, water, shells, plants, etc.

If you don’t already have a meditation practice, I suggest you try it, even if for just 5 minutes a day. I do this everyday to calm my body & declutter my mind to help me get clear about my intention.

Begin in a comfortable seat. This can look like sitting on a chair or cushion, either with your spine long or resting against a wall. Set a timer for 5 minutes & close your eyes.

Focus your attention on the breath and how the body moves with every inhalation & exhalation. Notice the movement of your belly, rib cage, chest & shoulders as you breathe. Allow your breath to move freely without controlling its pace or intensity. If your mind begins to wander or focus on a thought- return your attention back to your breath.

Try focusing on just the breath for your first few meditation practices, and then, when you feel comfortable with the process, begin to bring attention to yourself or someone you care for. Start to focus what you’d like to manifest or create. Don’t overthink it. Let your intuition be your guide. This can be as simple as a color you are drawn to or an emotion you are feeling. Trust what comes to mind - this is your intuition.

This may be different each time you meditate & that’s ok!

By bringing the focus inward, even for just a few minutes a day, we connect to the teacher within and begin to let go of the things that do not serve us to make room for new possibilities.
